I had to take a peek at the white radish plants to see how they were faring growing in the recycled PET bottles. I was a bit concerned that the narrow area would hinder the plants’ growth.
Well, I’m happy to say that I was rewarded with the sight of a growing radish – still small, no doubt, but at least it’s developing.
Since it appears to be moving along smoothly, I’ll leave this lot in their recycled pots and will start another crop that I’ll grow in a bigger container – maybe a recycled styrofoam box. If those grow bigger than the first crop in the bottle-pots, I’ll attempt a third crop in something bigger to push my theory further. Baby steps…

Woohoo!! Congratulations
I am the last to get a radish. Maybe I go and scrape the soil a bit too, and try to spot some white!!
LOL It will be weeks before I consider harvesting any of them. They’re tiny, just the width of my finger. It’s just exciting to see something actually growing!
The funny thing is, none of ours actually took the shape of the bottle or the pot they were planted in! They don’t grow to supermarket size. If you let yours grow bigger (i.e. older), they really are spicy, like horseradish!!! Our helper popped a good sized one, leaves and all, into our morning juice and it brought tears to my eyes.
So how big (or small) does it have to be to harvest it before it gets eye-watering? For my personal satisfaction as a gardener, I’d like to have at least one grow to a decent, boast-able size, if you know what I mean! But I will harvest the rest at a suitable stage.
